What is the Regional Office of Education?

Since 1865, the state of Illinois has had County Superintendents. Currently, the Regional Superintendents of Schools are the highest elected education officials in the state of Illinois. They represent local communities and their respective schools.

Throughout the years, changes have been made to the roles and responsibilities of the Regional Superintendent. The most basic responsibility of the Regional Office of Education is to support local school districts meet the operational challenges of educating our children.

These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Health & Life Safety, Certification and Professional Development of School Staff, and a variety of programs directly impacting student achievement.
